Residential Radon Monitoring

Radon is a radioactive natural gas, created when uranium in rock and soil decays, that can enter homes and other buildings, becoming trapped and concentrated in indoor air. Over time, alpha radiation emitted by inhaled radon gas atoms can cause cell damage in the lungs, which may increase the risk of lung cancer. According to the US EPA, radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer, and the number one cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.

Radon gas can’t be seen, smelled or tasted. But it can be detected and monitored using LANDAUER’s Radtrak Radon Gas Detector Kit. Radtrak is an alpha-track radon gas detector designed to monitor radon exposure over time. The device is designed to determine long-term average indoor concentrations of the gas, the most reliable indicator of exposure. This highly accurate radon detector—also referred to as a dosimeter—uses LANDAUER’s exclusive Track-Etch technology.

When you purchase a Radtrak Detector Kit, you will receive a comprehensive analysis and confidential report of findings, sent to you approximately seven to ten days after we receive your exposed detector. If you have any questions about the report findings, our friendly, knowledgeable customer support team is here to help. LANDAUER will also provide long-term storage of the processed detector for future reanalysis or documentation.

LANDAUER is the leader and pioneer in radon gas detection and monitoring services. For over 50 years we have been a leader in the development of radiation monitoring services for nuclear power and research facilities, the healthcare industry, military and emergency response, and other commercial and government entities. Our exclusive Radtrak detectors are used by the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Institutes of Health, the American Lung Association and many other government and professional organizations.

Industrial Radon Monitoring Service

Radtrak dosimeters can be configured for indoor use, outdoor monitoring and for personnel monitoring. The radiosensitive element is a CR-39 based passive alpha-track detector, which is enclosed in a protective housing with filtered openings that allow diffusion of radon gas only. Each detector has a unique serial number for ease of tracking.

All Radtrak detectors can be fitted with thoron filters to measure radon 222 only, or to determine thoron levels with side-by-side standard filter and thoron filter monitors. The standard minimum level of detection on our devices is 30 pCi/l-days. For information and pricing on high-sensitivity analysis that offers a lower minimum level of detection and lower uncertainty levels, please contact LANDAUER Customer Service.
